1991: The Carbon State Bank started business in Carbon with capital of $12,000.00. The president of the bank was Otto Gramm and the Vice President was Richard Brackenbury. L. R. Meyer was a Notary Public.
1904 January 11: The Carbon State Bank closed in Carbon and reopened the same day in Hanna.
1904. Carbon State Bank is Moved to Hanna
The Carbon State Bank of Carbon, Wyoming has been sold to the Carbon State Bank of Hanna, Wyoming, the capital stock of the new corporation being owned by the same persons owning the Carbon State Bank of Carbon. The Carbon State Bank of Hanna is officered as follows: President L. R. Meyer, Vice President C. L. Vagner, Cashier R. D. Meyer, the same gentlemen who have conducted the affairs of the Carbon State Bank during its fourteen yeas of successful business. The business of the bank at Carbon discontinued January 11 and the bank at Hanna opened for business the same day. The new corporation has erected a commodious bank building at Hanna. 1908: L. R. Meyer, president of the Carbon State Bank died and was buried in Denver Colorado.
L. R. MEYER, the discoverer of the coal mines of Carbon, Dana, and Hanna, the at one time general manager of the Carbon Timber Company, President of the Carbon State Bank, Member of the State Senate, etc., etc., died at and was buried at Denver last week. Mr. Meyer was a self-made man. He was for many years superintendent of the coal mines he discovered and by close attention to business accumulated a fortune. He left a son who virtually owns the Carbon State Bank at Hanna. (The Wyoming Industrial Journal, March 1, 1908)

Wyoming's First State Banking Institution Takes National Charter
On the first of the month the First National Bank of Hanna opened its doors as the successor of the Carbon State Bank and the oldest state banking institution in Wyoming ceased to exist as a state bank and entered the ranks of Wyoming's strong national banking institutions. The Carbon State Bank began business in the old town of Carbon on January 1st, 1891, the stockholders including many of the most prominent business men of Rock Springs and Laramie. When the town of Carbon was abandoned in 1904, the bank building was moved to Hanna where the bank continued to do a thriving business and Mr. Mike Quealy became president, a position which he held until his death three years ago. Starting with a capital of $15,000.00, the Carbon State Bank's business has grown to such an extent that, under the new name of the First National Bank of Hanna, it now has $65,000.00 capital and assets of half a million. 1927 - 1938: The First National Bank of Hanna became known as the Hanna State and Savings Bank. The bank continued to hold the same officers: John Quealy, President, C. D. Williamson, Vice-President and S. D. Briggs Cashier. The Board of Directors were: John Quealy, C. D. Williamson, S. D. Briggs, Ivor Christensen and Thomas Love.

Savings Bank - First National Bank - Hanna, Wyoming
I received this First National Bank from Hanna, Wyoming when I was a young girl. I assume that it was given to me on one of my many trips back to Hanna while visiting my grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scarpelli. I enjoyed using it as my piggy bank as I was growing up. (Terri Schreihart. 2022)

1929: The Great Depression started. It was a period of severe global economic downturn that occurred from 1929 to 1941. It was characterized by high rates of unemployment and poverty, drastic reductions in industrial production, trade and widespread bank and business failures around the world. The Stock Market crashed. The Great Depression was deep and hard felt in Wyoming and the Hanna Basin. Twenty-five Wyoming banks failed. Hanna's bank - the Carbon State Bank - First National Bank of Hanna - Hanna State and Savings Bank survived the economic downturn.

2018: The Hanna State Bank Today
The once prominent Hanna State and Savings Bank in Hanna, Wyoming, now sits vacant. The bank has been remodeled several times over the years to accommodated families, but no one seemed to live there very long.
