The Gus Siltimaki Coal Mine was located directly behind his two story home in Elmo. The Wyoming Mine Inspector Reports indicate the Gus Silimaki Coal Company and mine started coal production in Elmo in 1932. Other records indicate the mine was in operation around 1916. In the early years the mine was defined as a wagon mine and not subject to inspections by the Wyoming Mine Inspector.
