1999 – 2000: RAG Shoshone Coal Company's Shoshone No. 1 Underground Mine in Hanna, Wyoming
Notes from Bob Leathers
In 1999, the RAG Shoshone Coal Company took over production at the Shoshone No. 1 underground mine from the Cyprus Shoshone Coal Company. RAG produced coal for only two years, ending production at the Shoshone No. 1 Mine in 2000. During the two years, the mine produced 2,916,795 tons of coal with a peak employment of 79 workers. There were no deaths in the mine during RAG ownership. The closing of the Shoshone No. 1 Mine in 2000 marked the end of underground coal mining in Hanna.
