1894 - 1897: Edward Brooks was Superintendent of the Hanna mines. He left in 1897 for other employment.
1899 - 1907: Mr. Brooks was in Hanna once again as the Superintendent of the Hanna mines. He was superintendent when the June 30, 1903 explosion of Union Pacific Coal Company's Mine No. 1 in Hanna exploded killing 169 men. He left again in 1907, not long before the same mine exploded on March 28, 1908, killing an additional 59 men.

Superintendent of the Union Pacific Coal Company Mines at Hanna
E. S. Brooks for the past fourteen years was superintendent of the Union Pacific Coal Company mines at Hanna. He has resigned his position with the Company and gone to Big Muddy, Wyoming to become manager of the coal mines at that place. Mr. Brooks was the guest of honor at a farewell reception tendered him by the Hanna miners when he was presented with a 32nd degree Masonic emblem in the form of a watch and ring, each set with diamonds.
