Note: The death of John Robert Dexter, after an illness of several weeks due to heart trouble, was a sad blow to the community of Hanna. He died in the L.D.S Hospital in Salt Lake City on April 18, his parents being with him when the end came. The funeral was conducted by two L.D.S. elders from Rock Springs at the Methodist Church in Hanna, assisted by the Methodist choir, interment made in the Hanna cemetery.
John was born in Salt Lake September 13, 1917, most of his life having been spent in Hanna where he attended school and would have been a graduate of the senior class of the Hanna High School on May 24. He was very active in school affairs being Cheer Leader in 1933 - 1934, Assistant Business manager of the High School Annual and a member of the Pioneer staff. He was an active Boy Scout having a life membership pin. He was a member of the First Aid Team for three years, being captain of the winning team last year, and was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Drum and Bugle Corps.
John leaves to mourn his passing, his mother and father, three brothers and one sister, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The deceased was a grandson of the late John Dexter, formerly of Almy, and his grandfather, Robert Jack, was an early pioneer of Wyoming. His father, John Dexter, has worked for the Union Pacific Coal Company since 1908. (UPCCEM, June 1935)
