Scrapbook, James and Emma (Lord) While

Emma (Lord) While along with three of her children - Richard, James and Mary Ann were born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England.
A map of Barnsley where the James While family lived when Mary Ann While was born in 1883.  Boundary Street is not far from the center of Barnsley, and it is very close to the collieries, both the Oaks and Barnsley Main. I think Barnsley Main began production after the Oaks disaster in 1866 which is still the worst coal mine disaster ever in England. ​​(JWhile)

Barnsley Coal Mining
I was also exploring the history of mining around Barnsley. There was a huge mine explosion known as The Oaks disaster in 1866 in Barnsley, with over 300 deaths. After they closed that mine, they opened Barnsley Main close by. Perhaps James While left his home in Netherton and moved to Barnsley in the 1870s. (JWhile)
