Note: Mrs. Mary Ellen Clark, or Grandma Clark as she is affectionately known in Hanna, was born in Wigan England, on October 17, 1851. She lived most of her life in England, but when her children, one by one, came to America, Grandma decided that she too would come over to make her home here. Mrs. Clark has one son living in Hanna and another, Charles, who is a member of the Union Pacific Coal Company force at Cumberland. She makes her home at Hanna most of the time, where her cherry, kindly ways have endeared her to young and old. She is a devout member of the Episcopal Church and says she is happy to be in America and purposes staying with her children here. (UPCCEM, March 1927)
Note: Mary Ellen Clark, better known as “Grandma Clark," was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England, On October 17, 1851, and passed away in Hanna, Wyoming, on November 13, 1934, after a brief illness. She came to Hanna in 1920 with her son John and his family and had made her home there ever since. She was the oldest member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hanna, in which faith she had been baptized, confirmed and married. Her husband preceded her in death thirty years ago. She was the mother of nine children, two dead in England and four now living in England, two sons and one daughter in this country, John Clark and Mrs. Lucas Bateman of Hanna and Charles Clark of Idaho Springs, Colorado. She leaves also a number of grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on November 16th, interment in Hanna cemetery. Memorial services were held in St. Mark’s Church on Sunday, November 18th. Grandma Clark leaves a host of sorrowful friends who sympathize with the relatives in their bereavement. (UPCCEM, January 1935)
