Arthurs, Peter (World War I Casualty) PRIVATE, U.S. ARMY 58th INFANTRY REGIMENT, 4th DIVISION, killed in action August 6, 1918. Buried at Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France in Plot B, Row 7, Grave 6. No monument is in the Hanna Wyoming cemetery. Age: 23.

Jones, William D. (World War I Casualty) PRIVATE, COMPANY E, 30th INFANTRY, died October 13, 1918, from wounds received in action. Buried in the Hanna cemetery in plot 72. Age: 26.

Love, Michael Vickers (Peace Time Casualty) LIEUTENANT COLONEL, US AIR FORCE, killed in the line of duty on March 1, 1976, when his aircraft crashed on Rogers dry lakebed in California. Michael was a combat veteran of Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He is buried at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, but he has a memorial stone in the Hanna cemetery in plot 448. Age: 37.

Lucas, Bernard R. (World War II Casualty) Serial number 17054597, TECHNICAL SERGEANT, 328th BOMBER SQUADRON, 93rd BOMBARDMENT GROUP, killed in action, August 1, 1943. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart Medal and Air Medal. Buried in Florence, Italy. Memorial stone in Hanna Wyoming cemetery plot 218. Age: 22.

Lucas, William C. (World War II Casualty) Serial number 0-524578. SECOND LIEUTENANT, 331 INFANTRY, 83rd DIVISION U.S. ARMY, died July 14, 1944, from wounds received during action. Buried in the Hanna Wyoming cemetery, plot 218. Age: 27.

Luoma, Arvo A. (World War II Casualty) Serial number 3714 3722. PRIVATE FIRST CLASS, U.S. ARMY. killed in action April 21, 1945. Buried in the Hanna Wyoming cemetery, plot 365. Age: 28.

McAtee, William J. (Vietnam War Casualty) Serial number 54903692. SPECIALIST FOURTH CLASS, COMPANY D, 7th CAVALRY, 2nd BATTALION, U.S. ARMY, killed in action December 2, 1968, in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). Awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and Purple Heart. Buried in the Hanna Wyoming cemetery, plot 433. Age: 20.

Saari, John W. (World War II Casualty) Serial number 39197110. TECHNICIAN GRADE 5, 297th ENGINEERS COMBAT BATTALION killed in action June 26, 1944. Awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Buried in Cherbourg, Normandy, France. Memorial monument in the Hanna, Wyoming cemetery, plot 360. Age: 31.

1941

​The first contingent to leave Hanna for Army training consisted of Joe Mellor, Joe Stultz, Frank Clark, Richard Lucas, and Dan Walgren. They were entertained at socials by the Knights of Pythias Lodge and the American Legion before leaving. The Hanna Miners’ Band met the train when the lads stopped here on their way to Fort Warren. They are now stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. (UPCCEM, June 1941)
