John W. Saari from Hanna, Wyoming was killed in action at Normand, France June 26, 1944. He was a Technician Grade 5 attached to the 297th Engineers Combat Battalion. John was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He was buried in Normandy, France. A memorial stone is in the Hanna, Wyoming, Cemetery Plot 360, age 31. John was born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1913. He came to Hanna with his mother in 1923. He graduated from Hanna High School in 1931. He was an employee of the Union Pacific Coal Company from October 1934 to August 1942. Besides his mother, John was survived by an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rookala.
