Life Story
1889 April 22: Evan Jones was born in Canfield, Boulder, Colorado to David and Mary Ann (Hallier) Jones.
1892 April 4: Anna Maria Assarsson was born in Montpellier, Idaho.
1911 June 24: Evan Jones and Anna Maria "Annie" Assarsson married in Green River, Wyoming.
1920 January: Evan Jones was the census taker for Hanna.
1930 April 9: Evan "Snapper" Jones, age 40 and Anna "Annie", age 38 were living in Hanna in house #257. Evan was employed as a blacksmith helper at the coal mine. The rent was $12.00 a month. The children living with them included, Hazel Jones, age 18, Evan Leroy Jones, age 13 and John Jones, age 8.
1930 - 1960: Evan "Snapper" Jones was a long serving law enforcement officer in Carbon County and Hanna. He and Anna "Annie" had a beautiful flower garden in their backyard and were a part of the Union Pacific Coal Company garden contest each year. The lived on Tipperary on the upper road. Their house was easily identified by the several large pine trees growing in their yard.
1940: Evan Jones, age 50, born in Colorado, married, head of house was living in Hanna, Wyoming. His occupation was coal miner. He rented his home. He finished elementary school; 6th grade. Living with him was his wife Anna Jones, age 48, born about 1892, born in Idaho. She finished elementary school; 6th grade. Living with Evan and Anna was John Albert Jones, age 18, born about 1922 in Wyoming, single, completed high school, 3rd year. Also living with her parents was Joanne Jones, age 7, born about 1933, single, born in Wyoming, finished elementary school, 1st grade.
1950-1960: Evan "Snapper" Jones was the town marshal
1970 November 10: Evan Jones died in Hanna, Wyoming at age 81 and buried in the Hanna, Cemetery. He died from a stroke.
The Rawlins Daily Times: Saturday November 14
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday for Evan Jones, 81, a Hanna sheriff for more than 50 years. The rites were conducted in the Hanna Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Durkee, Jr., officiating.
Active pallbearers were Reino Hakala, Henry Whiles [While], Leo Leather [Leathers], James Cameron, James Kladianos and James Clegg. Honorary pallbearers were George Crank, John Dexter, Charles Mellor, Roy Beford, Sr., Ernest Matson, Ted Moffitt, John Terrill, Robert While, Tony Taccalone, Tony Scarpelli, Roy Bedford, and John Bedford.
Burial followed in the Hanna Cemetery.
Mr. Jones who was born April 22, 1889, in Campfield Colo., the son of Mary Ann Hollier and David Jones, pioneer residents of the Carbon and Hanna areas.
He attended school at Carbon and began working for the Union Pacific Coal Mines in Hanna at the age of 11 years. He married Anna Maria Assarsson, June 24, 1911, in Green River and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary June 24, 1961, in Hanna.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Hanna Methodist Church and was affiliated with the Knights of Pythias of which he served as past grand chancellor. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of which he was a past noble grand.
He had belonged to the Knights of Pythias and the Odd Fellows for more than 60 years.
Mr. Jones was also a member of the Blue Lodge of the Masons, the Consistory of Cheyenne and the Korein Shrine Temple. He also was active in the Democratic Party.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Jones of Hanna, two sons, Evan Leroy Jones, Roy Utah, and John A. Jones, Rawlins: one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Ann Carothers, Douglas; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brother, John Jones, Rawlins and Joseph Jones, Sinclair; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters and one son.

1978 November 26: Anna Maria died at the age of 86 in Rawlins, Wyoming. She was buried in the Hanna Cemetery.
Evan and Anna had six children during their marriage:
- Hazel Rose Jones (1913 - 1970) born March 16, 1912, in Wyoming. Married Thomas "Tommy" Lucas. Died July 16, 1959, in Laramie, Wyoming. Buried in Laramie.
- Joseph Edwin Jones (1915 - 1916) Born in Hanna, Wyoming. Died in Hanna, Wyoming. Buried in Hanna.
- Evan Leroy Jones (1917 - 2001) born March 1, 1917, in Hanna, Wyoming. Died April 22, 2001, in Hanna, Wyoming. Buried in the Hanna Cemetery.
- Evelyn Mae (1920 - 1921) Born June 18, 1920, in Hanna, Wyoming. Died in Hanna at less than a year old. Buried in Hanna.
- John Albert Jones (1922 - 2010) born January 31, 1922, in Hanna, Wyoming. Married Yvonne Potter. Died November 11, 1920, in Rawlins, Wyoming.
- Josephine Ann (1933 - 2011) Born in Hanna, Wyoming. Married Harold Leroy Martin on December 23, 1971. Died May 4, 2011, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 78 and buried in Broken Arrow Oklahoma.

Hanna Garden Contest
To Mr. Evan Jones, who won the first prize for the most attractive garden in 1924, again goes the first prize this year. Mr. Jones lived in Old Carbon long ago and moved to Hanna when Carbon was abandoned. Except for three years, spent in the Kemmerer district, he has been in Hanna ever since, is much interested in the town and has always done his part to make it a home-like place in which to live. His garden is a joy to all beholders and his generous contributions of flowers are always much appreciated by his friends. (UPCCEM, November 1925)

Mr. and Mrs. Evan Jones and Mrs. Dave Jones motored to Denver to attend the graduation exercises at the Presbyterian Hospital on April 17 at which time Hazel Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Crawford of Hanna, graduated with a class of twenty nurses. (UPCCEM, June 1934)
1940
Gardening Competition: Second prize: Evan Jones, first employed at Carbon March 15, 1901. Is married, two daughters and two sons, all living in Hanna. Evan is a car repairer and belongs to the Old Timers’ Association. He got second prize in 1938. (UPCCEM, September 1940)
