Note: The community of Hanna was saddened by the death of one of its oldest old timers when Mrs. Matilda Nilson Klaseen passed away on Monday morning, February 23rd, at the age of 79, she having been ill since February 9th. The deceased was born in Sweden on June 30, 1862, and came to this country in 1887, and to Hanna in 1890, where she was married to John Klaseen, who was a victim of the 1903 mine explosion. She suffered a paralytic stroke eighteen years ago which left her a partial invalid, although she was able to get around and do many things in her home. She enjoyed meeting and visiting with people, and was well known and loved by many persons in Hanna. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Alex of Oakland, California, Isidor, of Iona, Minnesota, and Albin, of Hanna, and two daughters, Anna and Edna Klaseen, of Hanna, and three grandchildren. Those who attended her funeral, in addition to the immediate family, were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Klaseen, Wallace Klaseen, and Mrs. Charles Klaseen, of Hotchkiss, Colorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Nels P. Nelson, of Casper. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church on February 26th, with Rev. Palmer officiating, and interment in Hanna Cemetery. The pallbearers were Roy Cummings, Joe Briggs, W.A. Briggs, Lynn Smith, Chas. Mellor, and Joe Lucas. (UPCCEM, April 1942)
