Note: Wilford Leo Leathers, 77, Casper, Wyoming, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Wyoming Medical Center, Casper. He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Vinita, Oklahoma, the son of Albert and Lula Woolman Leathers. In 1931, he moved with his family to Amherst, Nebraska. He graduated from Amherst High School in 1946. In 1945, Leo started working on the Union Pacific Railroad. He moved to Wyoming in 1948. In January 1951, Leo enlisted in the US Army, and started his basic training at Ft. Riley, KS. He joined the 28th Division connected to the Pennsylvania National Guard. In November 1951, he shipped out to Goblin, Germany. When he returned in 1952, he moved his family to Laramie, Wyoming. In 1953 they moved to Hanna, Wyoming. Working for the Union Pacific for 45 years, Leo could operate any piece of machinery that was out there. He retired from the railroad in 1990. From his love of working with wood, he was known around Casper as Old Crooked Stick and The Maker of Doll Furniture. He loved kids and was always giving away the furniture. He was a member of the Hanna Lions Club and was recognized nationally by the Lions Club for his work with charities and children. He married Dorothy While on Sept. 8, 1951 in Rawlins, Wyoming. She preceded him in death in 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian and Marie Leathers. Survivors include two sons, Robert Leathers and wife, Suzanne, Casper, Ronald Leathers and wife, Tauna, Laramie; one daughter, Janet Harnden, Casper; four brothers, John Leathers and Bill Leathers, both of Amherst, NE, and Albert Leathers and Frank Leathers, both of Topeka; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, Casper, with Deacon Leigh Earle from St. Mark's Episcopal Church officiating. Inurnment services will be 3:00 pm at Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, Wyoming. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanna Cemetery Fund, PO Box 99, Hanna, Wyoming 82327.
