Note: Obituary of John Gaw Milliken, Jr. - The community of Hanna was shocked and saddened by the death of John Milliken, Jr., one of its most respected and loved citizens, who succumbed to a gun-shot wound accidentally inflicted while attending the opening dance at Elk Mountain on May 18. John Gaw Milliken, Jr., was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Milliken, old timers of Carbon and Hanna. He was born in Carbon on May 22, 1905, and came to Hanna with his parents when he was six years old. He attended the Hanna school, and entered service with his father in the coal contracting business, taking over the business when his father retired several years ago. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, whom he married on May 21, 1932, and three daughters, Nancy, Shannon and Vicki. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. John Milliken of Cheyenne, two brothers, William and Robert Milliken of Hanna, and five sisters, Mary Peterson, Reno, Nevada; Margaret Hill, Pocatello, Idaho; Agnes Challender and Jean Hudson, both of Cheyenne; and Dorothy Cheesbrough of Elk Mountain, Wyoming. His father and one sister, Ann Jebbins, preceded him in death, his father passing away in 1942 and his sister approximately 27 years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Father Herd at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on May 23 and interment in the Hanna Cemetery. Pall bearers were Arthur Chaussart of Superior, William Evans of Elk Mountain, Aldon Thornton, James A. Warburton, Vincent Lucas and Mark Jackson of Hanna. Sympathy is extended to the family and other relatives in their bereavement. (UPCCEM, July 1946)
