Life Story
1855 June: Archibald Raite was born in Scotland.
1861 March 12: Agnes Purdie was born in Scotland.
1879 March 18: Agnes and Archibald "Archie" Raite were married.
1882: Agnes and Archie Raite, a coal miner in Scotland, immigrated from Scotland to America.
1900 September 12: Archibald "Archie" Raite, longtime resident and coal miner in Hanna, died in Cherokee, Kansas. Archie Raite's wife Agnes Purdie Raite returned to Hanna from Kansas with her family after her husband's death. She later died in Hanna and is buried in the Hanna, Cemetery.
1903 June 30: Agnes Raite's brother-in law, John "Jack" Raite, age 27, married to Mary Ann (While) Raite was killed in the Hanna Mine No. 1 Explosion
1936 March 4: Agnes Raite died in Hanna, Wyoming and was buried in the Hanna Cemetery.

Note: The community of Hanna was saddened by the passing of one of its pioneer residents when Mrs. Archie Raite died on Wednesday, March 4, after a short illness. Mrs. Raite was born at Wishaw, Scotland, on March 12, 1861. She became the bride of Archie Raite on March 18, 1879, and came with him to this country in 1881, settling at What Cheer, Iowa. In 1891 the family moved to Hanna, remaining there until 1893, when they moved to Kansas and remained there till Mr. Raite’s death in 1900. Mrs. Raite then returned to Hanna with her six children where she raised and educated them. One daughter, Mrs. Austin O’Malley, passed away in Hanna in 1918. Mrs. Raite leaves to mourn her passing five children: Mrs. Frank Amoss, Mrs. David Milne, Mrs. W.K. Burford, Mrs. Henry Jones and William Raite, all of Hanna; a brother, John Purdie, and a sister, Mrs. James Barr of Scotland; and ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church on Saturday, March 7, with Rev. W.P. Wood officiating, and interment was made in the Hanna cemetery. (UPCCEM, April 1936)
