Age: 61 y's, 8 m's, 29 d's
Note: With the passing of Samuel I. Rodda at Rock Springs on October 4, 1943, The Union Pacific Coal Company lost one of its prominent Old Timers. Mr. Rodda was born in Rock Springs, January 5, 1882, and at thirteen years of age entered the Company’s employ there. After several years' service, he moved to Hanna, where he was employed for nearly thirty-five years. Mr. Rodda worked in various capacities in the mines, shops and powerhouse, also served the Union Pacific Railroad Company as a switchman at Hanna. For a short period, he was employed at Spring Valley, Wyoming, and at Tono, Washington, where he was employed by the Washington Union Coal Company. He was a member of the Old Timers’ Association of The Union Pacific Coal Company and in 1939 was presented with a 40-year gold service button. Mr. Rodda, on account of illness, retired from service some time ago and only recently returned with Mrs. Rodda to reside with their son Howard and family at Rock Springs. Funeral services were held in the Episcopal Church at Hanna, and interment was in the Hanna Cemetery. We regret his passing and extend our sympathy to his widow; three sons, Howard, John and Thomas; and other surviving relatives. (UPCCEM, November 1943)
