Edwards, William Henry (MIR)
Cemetery: Greenhill Cemetery Laramie, Wyoming
Born: 1840
Died: Oct. 18, 1899, in Carbon.
Age: 59 y's
Note: William H. Edwards, age 59; nativity England; occupation, Timberman; had been in the employ of the company 20 years; was killed at Carbon Mine No. 2 on the 18th of October 1899; was married and had one daughter and one granddaughter Edwards was killed by a fall of rock. He was an experienced timber man and knew that the rock was loose and told the men who were working with him to keep from getting under that particular rock a few minutes before it fell. Evidence showed that he knew that the rock was loose; that he had timbered it himself the day before and should have taken care of himself. (1900 Mine Inspector Report) (BL)
Note: The remains of W. H. Edwards, foreman at the Carbon coal mines, who was accidentally killed by a falling rock while alone in the mines Wednesday, were brought to this city on train No. 4 today for interment in the city cemetery. They were accompanied by the daughter and son-in- law of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lynch, and by about fifty citizens of Carbon and friends of the family, including an escort of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias, in both, of which orders the deceased had membership. Information of the coming of the funeral party was not received here until 11o'clock today and for this reason none of the lodges had time to turn out as a body, but there were representatives of each fraternity at the depot to meet the train and join in the procession that followed the remains to the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Lynch, the son-in-law and daughter of the deceased. The delegation from Carbon wore rich mourning badges but did not appear in regalia and while a large number of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias attended the funeral at 2 o'clock this afternoon, the service was conducted by a minister and the ritual ceremonies were omitted. (Daily Boomerang, October 20, 1899)
Note: William Edwards was not listed on the Miners Monument. (BL)

Killed in Carbon No. 2 Mine - Buried in Greenhill Cemetery Laramie, Wyoming
Ehrhardt, Elmer (MIR); Aka: Erhardt, E. (MM)
Cemetery: Clifton Hill Cemetery in Clifton Hills Missouri
Born: 1921
Died: Jan. 22, 1947
Age: 23 y's
Note: Elmer Ehrhardt, on January 22, 1947, at 3:41 P.M. Elmer Ehrhardt, age 23, married, was instantly killed by a fall of coal. The accident occurred in C-3 Plane, No. 9 Room, Hanna No. 4A Coal Mine, property of the Union Pacific Coal Company. Robert Houston, machine runner, and Mr. Ehrhardt, machine helper, had completed the undercut in the room. They were in the act of cutting out on the low side rib, when without any warning a slab of coal, measuring eight feet long, three feet wide and twenty inches thick at the thickest part, tapering off to a featheredge, weighing approximately a ton, fell from the face of the room, striking Mr. Erhardt on the back, knocking him against the frame of the machine, killing him instantly. According to the testimony given at the inquest by the Unit Foreman, Mr. Childers, he had tested the face and found it to be solid and safe before the undercut was started. This Department recommends that where there is overhanging top coal, it must be taken down before the mining machine starts to undercut. Hugh McLeod, State Coal Mine Inspector. Mike Duzik, Deputy Coal Mine Inspector. (MIR)
Note: Elmer was killed January 22, 1947, in the Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 4A mine in Hanna. He was interred in the Clifton Hill cemetery in Clifton Hills Missouri. (Ancestry) (BL)
