Life Story
1878 January 14: Henry Altry Lyon was born in Chorley, England.
1889 February 6: Annie Angwin was born in Iowa to Joseph and Susannah (Cox) Angwin.
1904 December 6: Henry Lyon and Annie Angwin married in Laramie, Wyoming.
1908 March 28: Harry Lyon was killed in the Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 mine in Hanna. His body was not removed from the mine. He was 30 years old at the time of his death. (BL)
Harry Lyon was a Gas Watchman in the No. 1 mine. On Saturday, March 28, 1908, while the mine was idle, a fire crew consisting of 18 men including Harry entered the Number 1 mine to put out a fire burning in entry number 10. The mine exploded about three in the afternoon killing all the men in the fire crew. A rescue crew was organized and entered the mine to search for survivors. A second explosion occurred the same day about ten thirty in the evening killing an additional 41 men. Harry's body was not found consequently it was not removed from the mine. (BL)
Henry and Annie had two children together:
- Harry Alty Lyon (1905 - 1982) Born in Hanna, Wyoming. Died at age 77 in Minnesota. Buried in Laramie, Wyoming.
- Annie Lyon (1908 - 1909) Born in Hanna and died in Hanna.
1909: Annie (Angwin) (Lyon) married Wesley Kennison.
1923 September 3: Annie (Angwin) (Lyon) Kennison died in Hanna, Wyoming and was buried in the Hanna cemetery.
Annie died on Sep. 3, 1923 after suffering an accidental skull fracture. Her husband Wesley who had 5 drinks in celebration of the Labor Day holiday had taken the family out for a drive. In the backseat were Frances age 13, Ruby age 11, Walter age 8 and Thelma age 13 months. Apparently, Wesley was driving very fast. The older children reported hitting their heads on the roof of the car as they bounced down the dirt road. (no seatbelts) Annie threatened to jump out if he did not slow down. Annie fell or jumped from the car, hitting her head on a rock and subsequently died 30 minutes later at the Hanna Hospital. (Janet Green, family member)

Hanna Monument: At the top of Hanna Hill stands a Memorial Monument dedicated to the men who lost their lives in the explosions of the Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 Mine in Hanna. The Monument also marks the area where 28 of the men - like Harry Lyon - were killed, but not recovered and their bodies remain at the bottom of the mine.

Hannah Alty, born 1876. James Alty. Born 1878. John James, born 1879, died 1879. Henry, born 1879. Edward, born 1881. John, born 1882. Daniel Herald, born 1885. On the 13th November, 1901 Henry arrived in New York in company with Robert Lee, 24 years and John Lee, 22 years both miners on their way to Hanna. Henry was sponsored by his uncle John Jackson and the Lee brothers by their brother Joseph Lee in plot 87 in the Hanna cemetery. Henry married in 1904 to Annie Angwin and had two children, Harry, born 1905 and Annie, born 1908, died 1909, plot 176 in the Hanna cemetery.
Henrys wife Annie remarried in 1909 to Wesley Kenison, 21 years and went on to have 4 children, Francis, Ruby, Walter and Bernice who died in 1922 aged two. Annie died in 1923 after suffering head injuries after throwing herself out of a automobile being driven by her husband, Wesley. Apparently he was driving fast and she threatened to jump out if he did not slow down, he didn’t and she jumped. Annie is buried in plot 176 in the Hanna cemetery with her daughters, Annie and Bernice. (John Baldwin, England)
