1863 March 11: James Massey was born in Scotland
1870 June 11: Jeane Raite was born in Scotland to James and Jane "Jennie" (Harkens) Raite.
Jennie was the sister to Archbald Raite, James Raite and a sister to Agnes Raite.

1885: James Massey immigrated to the United States.
1885: Jennie Raite immigrated to the United States.
1891 March 6: James Massey and Jennie Raite married in Carbon, Wyoming.
1900: James Massey, head of house, age 33, born March 1867 in Scotland was married to Jennie Massey: married in 1890; 10 years married; 15 years in the United States; a naturalized citizen; immigrated in 1885; a laborer in a mine; could read and write and speak English. He was living with Jennie Massey; age 29, born June 1870 in Scotland; immigrated in 1885; had 3 children with 3 children still alive; living in Hanna, Wyoming. Living with them were: James Massey, age 7, a son, born in Wyoming, July 1892; John Massey, age 4, a son, born in Wyoming, September 1895; and Jennie Massey, age 2, a daughter, born in Wyoming, May 1898. 1903 June 30: The Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 Mine in Hanna exploded killing 169 men - including James Massey.
James, an English-speaking miner from the United Kingdom, married, was killed in the June 30, 1903 explosion of Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 mine in Hanna. He was found at entry 26 back at the face, identified and removed from the mine on December 4, 1903, day 160 after the explosion. He was buried in Plot 244 in the Hanna cemetery. (BL)
1903 August 8: The Coroner's Inquest was published for the Union Pacific Coal Company's June 30, 1903 explosion of Hanna Mine No. 1, which killed 169 men. The report consisted of questions and answers from the miners that survived the explosion.
1904: Eleven months after the June 30, 1903 explosion, the Union Pacific Coal Company No. 1 Mine was back to normal coal production. This proved to be a fast recovery for a mine that was decimated by a violent explosion. The rush to normal production, according to a mine inspector at the time, was one of the primary causes of the March 28, 1908 explosion, killing an additional 59 men.
1907: The Union Pacific Coal Company formally recognized the United Mine Workers of America as the union representing the Hanna Miners. The Hanna local 2335 was established. All of the union members were employees of the Union Pacific Coal Company. William “Bill” Pascoe was the first president.
1908 March 28: The Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 Mine in Hanna exploded again - twice in the same day - killing 59 men.
1908 July 27: Noah Young, Wyoming State Mine Inspector - Report to Governor B.B. Brooks - reported the details of the March 28, 1908 explosion of Union Pacific Coal Company's Number 1 mine in Hanna.
1909: The Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 1 Underground Mine in Hanna was abandoned.
1911: The Union Pacific Coal Company's No. 4 Underground Mine in Hanna was under development. The mine would start production of coal in 1912.
1912: The last residents of Carbon left the town searching for other places of housing and employment. The town was now abandoned.
1914 April 20: The Ludlow Massacre of Colorado Coal Miners occurred. It was an attack by the Colorado National Guard and the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, owned by John D. Rockefeller, on a tent colony of 1,200 striking coal miners and their families at Ludlow, Colorado. It had a profound affected on the Hanna miners.
1915 April 5: Miss Jeane (Raite) (Massey) of Hanna married Frank Amoss. Frank was born June 29, 1873.
1930: Jeane (Raite) (Massey) (Amos), was living with her brother William A. Raite, head of house, a material Clerk for the coal mine, in Hanna, Wyoming along with William's mother Agnes Raite, widowed, age 69; Agnes Amos, niece, age13, born in Wyoming; and Jean Marie Burford, a nice, age 6 months, born in Wyoming. 1942 June 6: Frank Amoss died in Hanna, Wyoming at age 68 and was buried in the Hanna, Wyoming Cemetery
Frank Amos and Jennie Raite had one daughter together.

1964 October 17: Mrs. Jeane Massey, age 94, died in Denver, Colorado and was buried in the Hanna, Wyoming Cemetery.

Note" Obituary: Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hanna Methodist Church for Mrs. Jeane Massey, 94, who died in the home of her daughter in Denver, Colorado, Saturday morning. Pall bearers were R.S. Milliken, James L. Clegg, John Kivi, Norman Smith, Lynn Smith and Carl Erickson. Mrs. Massey was born in Scotland June 11, 1870 and had lived in Hanna for the last 75 years. Her husband died in 1903. She was a member of the Hanna Methodist Church and the Pythian Sisters of Hanna. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert Norris of Hanna and Mrs. Margaret Foley of Denver; one son, John Massey of California, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rev. John Foreman officiated at the funeral services and burial was in the Hanna Cemetery. (Daily Times)
